Alutherm's History and process

Alutherm CZ Ltd was established in 1994.Owners of the plant are companies Kovohute Mnisek a.s., Czech Republic, and S.A. Minerais, Luxembourg. The plant is located 30 km south-west from Prague on Kovohute Mnisek premises.

 Light aluminium scrap cannot be remelted at a high efficiency and is therefore sometimes considered as a waste material. The Alutherm process was developed specifically to treat environmentally unfriendly grades of scrap as well as traditional material grades, which arise from industrial sources and  ensures maximum metal yields when processing the types of aluminium scrap.

The process is based on the following unit operations :

• Size reduction in multiple stages combined with magnetic separation and sorting out of foreign materials ( shredding, granulation )
• Thermal treatment to remove all organic components accompanying the raw material ( paint, lacquer, plastic coating, oil ). Simultaneously the aluminium particles are prepared for compacting and mechanical treatment.
