A) Bulk density

The apparent bulk density depends on particle shape and size distribution.A wide distribution range introduces finer particles into the voids between the larger ones and yields a more densely packed product. Particles, even of a high  density, when present in a narrow size range population, can have a lower apparent bulk density due to voids between the particles. The apparent bulk density varies from 0,7 to 1 grams per cubic centimeter.

B) Specific surface area

The specific surface area of aluminium granules or powder is significant whenever the product is used as a reagent participating in a chemical-metallurgical reaction. It will effect and in some cases, control the rate of reaction, efficiency and recovery. The specific surface area is a function of the size distribution, shape and density of the product. It varies accordingly between 1 to 10 square meters per kg .

C) Size distribution  

 Alutherm supplies its granules and powders in a variety of size ranges and distributions. The main size groups in millimeters are : 0,2-0,5, 0,5-1,6, 1,6-3, 3-6, 6-15, 1,6-10 etc.

D) Appearance

The products are carbon-free and unoxidized metallic aluminium particles with a silvery appearance. They are provided in round or flat irregular shape.

1. Large granules

Size : 6-15 mm

Apparent bulk density 1kg/l

Main uses :       Deoxydant for steel. Reducing agent for slag treatment and deoxydant for specialty steel

2. Medium size granules

Size :    0,2-0,5 mm; 0,5-1,6 mm

Analysis (%):    Al min. 98,5, Cu max.0,2, Zn max. 0,1, Si max. 0,4, Fe max. 0,5

                                   Apparent bulk density 0,7-1 kg/l

Main uses :       Production of ferroalloys by the aluminothermic reaction, chromium metal. welding mixtures, exothermic mixtures
